A released result can mean the person is no longer held by the reporting agency. It does not always explain whether the cause was bond, court discharge, completed sentence, parole, community placement, or transfer. Confirm the next status before treating the person as free from all custody.
CT DOC's own field list is broader than a VINE result. It may include admission and sentencing dates, controlling offense, minimum and maximum sentence, minimum, maximum, and estimated release dates, detainer, photograph, correctional history, and disciplinary history. Those fields belong to the correctional record. Use them only when they help verify the custody event and never assume VINE will reproduce them.
Register New Haven Release Alerts
Registration begins after the correct person or case is found. The system may offer phone, email, text, or other current delivery methods. Contact information should be kept current. An alert can cover release, transfer, return to custody, or another reported change. The words in the actual notice matter. Save the date and source, then use the related agency record to find the reason.
If a phone number or email changes, update the registration. Otherwise, the system may send a valid notice to an old contact. Keep the PIN private but available to acknowledge an automated call. When repeated calls continue, use the official CT SAVIN help channel tied to the registration rather than creating duplicate person records.
New Haven CT SAVIN Languages
CT SAVIN adds a local and statewide notification layer beyond a basic person search. The official victim-notification brochure says notices are available in English, Polish, Portuguese, and Spanish. It covers criminal court cases, DOC custody-status changes, and changes involving court orders of protection. These are distinct tracks.

Confirm a New Haven Release
A VINE alert should be checked against the system that controlled the release. For CT DOC custody, use the CT DOC Inmate Information Search and, when needed, the Public Information Office. For a pretrial release, read the Judicial Branch docket for bond, discharge, dismissal, nolle, time served, probation, or remand language. For parole, compare the Board of Pardons and Paroles decision and Parole and Community Services status.
A clear method is to confirm three points: the event, the time, and the next legal status. The VINE notice may supply the event signal. CT DOC or the holding agency can confirm physical custody. The court or supervision record can explain what followed. A transfer is not a community release, and a release from one hold does not prove that no other agency holds the person.
For a person shown at a current CT DOC facility, use the correctional location as the custody starting point. For a person marked released, compare the alert date with the court or DOC record. If the location disappears but no release language appears, pause. Misspellings, feed timing, transfers, and record limits can all produce an incomplete view.

New Haven VINELink Limits
Connecticut VINE does not replace a court docket, DOC release record, parole decision, or records request. It may not show the full reason for a release, the sentence calculation, or each facility movement. Data can also arrive after an agency completes the actual event. A missed or delayed notice is not proof that no change occurred.
Federal Bureau of Prisons custody is separate. Use the BOP Inmate Locator for a federal person. ICE custody uses the Online Detainee Locator System and immigration channels. A municipal police release may need to be checked with the arresting agency and court if the person never entered CT DOC custody.
CT DOC Public Information can route further state-offender questions at 860-692-7780 on weekdays from 8:00 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Written requests go to the Public Information Office at 24 Wolcott Hill Road, Wethersfield, CT 06109. Those channels are useful when a status is stale or the release reason is not public online.
A restricted or erased record can also change what a public search returns. Manson Youth Institution release questions require added care because youth and youthful-offender records may not be public. A person may also have transferred to another jurisdiction or entered supervision without a full explanation in VINE. State DOC, the court, and the proper records office are the sources for those distinctions.
Registries serve a different purpose. The Connecticut sex offender registry covers people who have a duty to register and may include last known address and offense details. It is not a list of all New Haven County releases. Do not use a registry result to infer a new custody event, and do not use the lack of a registry result to infer that someone remains held.
